This movie was great. I love pretty much all movies with Ryan Reynolds in them, and somehow he wasn't even the star of the movie for me. Walker Scobell, who played mini Ryan Reynolds, was easily the funniest and most entertaining character in this movie. He was simply hilarious. His comedic timing and just the jokes in general made me laugh out loud and he really made the movie for me. Like the story line was good and all but the characters is what made the movie. With the story line, you could have cast pretty much anyone and they could have worked in the given part, they chose phenomenally. Walker and Ryan give off the same energy, they play off each other's jokes, and are the perfect characters to play their given parts. It is hard to believe that this is Walker's film debut, he has been acting in tv shows but this was his first movie (I think). This movie was loaded cast wise, having Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, and even Jennifer Garner. This cast really made the movie and I am convinced that the movie would have been a lot worse if they were not the cast. The jokes would not have hit as well, and the overall vibe would have totally been different. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants a feel good movie as this movie will without a doubt make you feel good. I would give it a 7.5/10, and most of this is given because of the cast. Without the cast the movie would have been average, but with the cast the movie was so enjoyable that I didn't even care that the plot was simple and repeatable.

This movie was great. I love a good Nolan movie, especially one where you are given the ending and left wondering the events that led to that final scene. I went into this movie not expecting much, for some reason I also thought it was about a pianist. This was immediately changed when we started watching it. The opening sequence where Hugh Jackman dies reveals the perfect amount of information while still holding back enough to keep you wondering throughout the movie. I also loved the structure of the movie, it reminded me of Memento. It flipped between the present, the past, and a different present, and a different past. You follow both Angier and Borden as they grow in hatred towards each other, and them as they read their individual journals. It was a sick structure and this really helped me stay entertained throughout the movie. I also really liked how Angier developed throughout the story, like he used to not get his hands dirty and then throughout the movie he slowly started to get his hands more and more dirty until he is literally killing himself each time he preforms the magic trick. I also like that Borden's assistant was his twin and committed to the vanishing man trick enough to cut his fingers off. Overall the movie was great and I would recommend it to any and everyone. It felt very Christopher Nolan and it was a beautiful movie none-the-less. I would give the movie a 9/10 and that is being less than generate. This movie was really confusing at first because I showed up like 15 minutes into the movie and was not aware that this was a Nicolas Cage movie about Nicolas Cage. After the part I missed was explained to me, I found the movie very enjoyable and cool. There were a couple things that if I was being a nitpick about I would say that I disliked. For example, the acting of the FBI agents were terrible. They did not really give FBI vibes, and they were obviously acting. Other than them, the acting was really good. Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal were both amazing. Their LCD scene was very believable and hilarious. Overall, the acting was pretty good considering the people who appeared the most were good actors. The concept of the show was good, I liked how they were coming up with a movie as they were acting it out and then the end of the movie was them watching the movie they made. The cut from their life to the movie was really good and made sense without needing to be explained. I also really like how they were watching paddington 2 at the end of the movie as a family, because I love that movie. Overall I would say that I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, it was funny, well thought out, and the acting was good enough. Even without the opening scenes (first 15 ish minutes), I was not confused (as soon as I was told a brief summary). I watched it with a group of guys and it was totally a guy movie that you could talk over. Let me start out by saying this may be the best looking movie I have ever seen. It is visually so appealing and even if the story sucked, I would have still liked this movie. Luckily the story did not suck, and I enjoyed it for more than just its looks. This movie follows a girl named Violet Evergreen in the time of WWII. She is a doll, a girl who writes letters for people who are illiterate. It follows her as she navigates her life and eventually writes letters for a mother who is dying. This is the sequel for a the TV show Violet Evergarden although you don't have to have seen the series to like the movie. The movie kind of flashes between romance and slice of life, and although not much happens I found the whole movie very enjoyable. This movie is sad, romantic, and happy. It has Violet's backstory, which is sad as she was involved in the WW. It also has Violet's actions in everyday which although is not romantic by nature, is portrayed in a romantic way. You also get a bunch of laughter and friendship that makes the movie happy. Lastly this movie is beautifully animated. This movie was done in 2020 and as far as I know received no recognition for it, which I think is a shame. This movie, in my opinion, could have easily be at out any other movie for prettiest animation, if this was a category in and awards. I have not seen any animation as nice as this, it was fluid, stunning, and the sound design paired with it made it feel surreal. The animation is what made this movie so good and honestly I am sad they have not made any sequels as the movie ended in a way that could have set up another movie. If I had to give this movie a rating, I would rate it a 8.5/10, the animation is a 10/10 but the story is a 7/10. Although the story is beautiful, not a lot happens. If I was in the mood for a movie like that, then I would have been completely ok with that, and honestly the story would have probably been a 9/10 for me, but I wanted a little more to happen. The movie was great and I recommend it to anyone who is willing to watch anime and would want to watch one. |
